Congratulations to the New Children's Laureate

Congratulations to Leigh Hobbs the new Australian Children's Laureate.

The Laureate's role is to promote the importance of reading, creativity and story in the lives of young Australians. You can find out more about this role and keep up to date with their projects on the Children's Laureate webpage -  www.childrenslaureate.org.au

The theme for Hobbs’s two-year term as Australian Children’s Laureate will be ‘to champion creative opportunities for children, and to highlight the essential role libraries play in nurturing our creative lives’.

'Libraries have played an enormous role in my life', Hobbs says. 'Reading and exploring history and art is something I have been able to do because of libraries. I’m passionately interested in histories and cultures and I hope that through my work I can encourage children to explore and experience these things too.'

Our eMagazine of the week is Aero Australia. The current issue has a great feature "Into the jet age" when Australia's domestic airlines began swapping propellers for jets.

Library members can view this issue online or download it to read later. There are a number of back issues still available: http://www.rbdigital.com/rockdale/service/zinio/landing?mag_id=360

Our saddest eMagazine of the week ever:

The results are in and here's the current top 30 eMagazines in our collection. Woman's Day effortlessly made it to number 1 with more double the checkouts of its nearest rival OK USA. New Scientist made it to number 11, but no computer, technology, nature, travel, music, automotive or parenting eMagazines made the top 30. Maybe next month!

Help the genres you are interested in make the top 30 by checking out your favourite eMagazines at http://www.rbdigital.com/rockdale/service/zinio/landing
